10/26/08 - Are you there, Internet? It's me, John.

Now that's what I call a hiatus. If you're a first time visitor to the site, thanks for stopping by! I hope you like what you see. Please feel free to roam around and come back when the fancy strikes you. If you're a returning visitor and you're wondering why there was a 7+ month gap between updates here, all I can say is that I'm sorry for falling off the face of the Internet and I hope it won't happen again.

Mr. Miller from Night Terrors - Click for Full-Size ImageSince pictures speak louder than words, and pictures are what I do, here's a sketch of one of the main characters of my forthcoming comic Night Terrors. I've spent a good chunk of time over the last few months working on the story and layouts for Night Terrors, and I can't wait to finally get it out there for everyone to enjoy. One of the hardest things for me this last half year has been the need to prioritze certain work over others and, unfortunately, the characters and story I've put together for NT have paid the price.

I don't really have a whole lot to add at this point, I really just wanted to get back on the horse with posting and updating here. I've spent a little time adding a new Gallery page and with some time and a little luck I'll be filling out the empty slots there pretty soon.

Thanks again for cruising by and I'll try to make it worth your while to stop by some more.

 John

3/20/08 - Up Against a Wall

D.J. Coffman's Hero By Night - Click for Full-Size ImageHere's the inked version of the Hero By Night drawing I did awhile back. The pencils are up at the HBN Fan Forum if you want to cruise over there and check them out. With any luck, I may be able to post a full color version done by none other than HBN colorist extraordinaire Jason Embury in the next few weeks.

Sorry for the sparse posting of late. Hopefully you've been able to check out some of the cooler places I've mentioned in the meantime. I don't have a ton of time right now (the March Madness never ends here), but next time I'd like to drop some knowledge on another of my favorite stops on the information superhighway: Ghost Zero.

Later,

 John

2/28/08 - Monkeys By Night

I know you probably hear this all of the time, but the only thing better than monkeys are giant, blood-thirsty, crazy monkeys. But where can you find said monkeys? Well, as soon as you're done pouring over every image in the Galleries here, go to HeroByNight.com. The HBN site is one of my favorite places to go and creators D.J. Coffman and Jason Embury have dozens of strips and pages there for all the world to see.

As I was saying, one of the greatest monkey themed villains since Grape Ape is part of the HBN universe, Saul Simian. Here's a sketch I did of Saul who shows up in the latest issue and will be on the HBN site pretty soon by the looks of it.

Saul Simian from D.J. Coffman's Hero By Night - Click for Full-Size ImageGo check it out. It's a great way to spend your Friday at work. There's also a Fan Forum there that I recently posted a drawing of the Hero By Night up at. When I finish inking it up, I'll post it here. In the meantime, swing by and say hi. There's a good bunch of folks over there that like exactly the same stuff you do. Mostly.

Later,

 John

2/26/08 - No Time for Love, Dr. Jones!

This post is going to have to be shorter than usual, but I wanted to drop in and say a quick hello and thanks for checking out the site. There's a ton of places on the web to waste your workday away, but the fact that you chose to burn away a chunk of it here is much appreciated.

Jack from Night Terrors - Click for Full-Size Image

In that spirit, here's something from my sketchbook that will be showing up in a future panel of Night Terrors. I was trying out some new inking supplies and I'm pretty pleased with the way it came out. It's our hero Jack.

See you tomorrow? Maybe. Come back and find out.

 John

2/2/08 - Go!

Remember my last post where I said I couldn't imagine anyone wanting to buy an Aqualad drawing separately? Well, here's your chance to prove me wrong. Here's Aqualad along with his fellow founding Teen Titans Kid Flash, Wonder Girl, and Robin.

Aqualad - Click for Full-Size Image Kid Flash - Click for Full-Size Image Wonder Girl - Click for Full-Size Image Robin - Click for Full-Size Image

I've mentioned it before in regards to his mentor, but I do have a ton of love for 'ol Gill-Head. Please don't send me any messages about how I'm hating on your favorite character of all time. I love Tempest just as much as you do.

If I had any more paper left from the pad these came from, I'd probably draw Speedy as well. Since Wonder Girl wasn't in the Teen Titans first team-up, I could probably stretch and add him into the set. I used up my last four remaining pages on another famous foursome instead. I'll get those scanned and added to one of the Gallery pages real soon.

I haven't added the finished inked versions to the Sales page yet, but when I do they'll be $20 individually or $70 if purchased as a set. Not bad, right?

Thanks for stopping by.

 John

1/10/08 - Boy Wonderings

Last Christmas, a friend of mine gave me a really nice pad of Strathmore Bristol paper. I can't remember the last time I've bought a pad of paper or a sketchbook since I usually get them as gifts from friends and family. It's been a few years, at least. I've got a ton of them and I always love getting more. It's like an incentive to draw when you have so much blank paper laying around.

Robin - Click for Full-Size ImageWell, a few weeks ago I came across this nice pad of 9" x 12" smooth Bristol and started working in it right away. I usually draw at 11" x 17", so the different size is nice for a change. It's got 20 sheets, so I started thinking about doing a series of related drawings. The first drawing I cranked out was the one of Robin here.

Since it's an early Dick Grayson vintage Robin, I decided to knock out the rest of the original Teen Titans in pretty short order. I'll get those scanned in and added to a gallery here pretty soon. I'll also be placing them on the Sales page once they're all inked up and ready to go. I'll be selling them as a set, since I can't imagine anyone wanting to buy Aqualad separately. I kid. Kinda.

Adios.

 John

1/8/08 - Let a New Year of Slacking Begin!

Well, the first week of the new year is already in the bag. That was some 2007. I'll say this, whatever else 2007 was, it wasn't boring. I've got high hopes for the next year, and I hope all of you do as well.

I'm going to try my best to update more frequently, that's for starters. The irony is, the better off I'm doing with illustrations and design, the less time I have to update here. The thing is, though, that's not all true. I know more than few guys out there who draw and design, have families to boot, and still manage to update regularly. It can be done. So, if I can't bring you anything of my own to show you, I'll point you in their directions. Check out my last post below for a great starting point if you haven't already.

So here we are in a shiny, brand new year with the same mission as always: improving your life through comics and giving you a reason to slack off. I'll just try to do it a little more and a little better.

Take care.

 John

12/4/07 - Struck By Lightning

Well, gang, we are quickly approaching the one-year anniversary of the All New, All Different Art of John Jett. For those keeping score at home, this is actually version 3.0 of my little corner of the information superhighway. Third time's the charm, I guess. I'm thinking it's time to do a little State of the Site type of thing, sort of a retrospective as well as a chance to reaffirm this site's mission statement. That sounds like a good way to mark the last year. Stay tuned for that in the next week or so.

One of the things I wanted this site to showcase from the beginning was my work on my own creation, Night Terrors. Since that has taken it's own sweet time to develop, I think this would be a good time to turn you on to a few other great places to spend your time at work when you should be doing what you're really getting paid for.

Some of my favorite comics are adventure strips and pulp stories. Captain Spectre and the Lightning Legion, Tom Floyd's Captain Spectre - Click for Full-Size Imageby Tom Floyd, combines both with amazing results. The site just started updating regularly again after a brief hiatus, and it has come back swinging. Captain Spectre is equal parts the Spider and the Rocketeer with some Doc Savage thrown in for good measure. The art and story are both top notch. I guarantee if you check it out, you will not get any work done today. It's that good.

When the new chapter started up recently, I couldn't help but open my sketchbook and draw up this rendition of Captain Spectre. Please don't let my sub-par drawing turn you off from checking out a great piece of work. When I started sketching, I realized too late just how incredibly detailed and difficult to draw the Captain's uniform is. Tom Floyd makes it look easy. Go check it out.

Thanks for stopping by.

11/3/07 - Daylight Spending Time

Mr. Miller from Night Terrors - Click for Full-Size Image

It's just shy of midnight (again), but this time I wanted to get this sketch of a certain mystery character from Night Terrors posted up by tonight so that you could have an extra few hours to savor it. Unless you're in a part of the world that doesn't benefit from daylight savings time, in which case you'll just have your standard savoring hours.

Normally seen walking around the neighborhood of Night Terrors with a great big pumpkin on his head, this creepy guy will be playing a pretty large role in the the lives of Jack and his friends. Every neighborhood has it's Boo Radley, and this is theirs.

The drawing itself (which loses an astonishing amount of detail from the board to the screen) is the art for the NT Mail page that I'm finishing up. I talked about it a few posts down, but basically, this will be the page where you get to see your questions and comments answered and commented back. The final inked art will go to the reader who can come up with the best name for our Mail page as chosen by me and probably the lovely wife. The contest will officially start when the NT site goes live, but if you've got any great ideas send them my way and we'll get them added to the list. It's got to be cool, clever, funny, or all of the above and the finished art will be yours to hang on your wall or line your favorite birdcage.

Thanks for stopping by. I'm off to spend my extra hour I've been saving up.

 John

11/1/07 - All Hallows Day

So that's a wrap on another fine Halloween. We have so much candy left over here at the Jett labs that I had a continental breakfast made up of assorted bagels and Butterfinger Crisps. If you are in a part of the world that doesn't have Butterfinger Crisps, I would move. Or buy some on EBay. Don't write to me asking for free samples, you had your chance yesterday.

We had a decent amount of trick-or-treaters, but oddly enough not a lot of them in costume. I'm thinking it must be a local phenomenon, but I'm not sure. It did make for an interesting quagmire on my part: if you're not in costume, do you get candy? Ultimately, not wanting to be on the business end of egg-based retribution, I decided that everyone got candy. Some just got more than others.

And the kid who didn't dress up, but still asked for Butterfinger by name? Sorry, dude. That's not the way we do business around here. Sara and Ricky get those, 'cause they committed to the spirit of the season. You get Skittles. Just be glad I didn't have any Smarties or you'd have pockets full of those instead. That's right, I'm the bad guy.

Speaking of committment to Halloween, how about we all commit to having Night Terrors up and running full steam by next Halloween at the latest? Wouldn't it be incredible to be able to hand out a NT mini-comic in full color to all of the trick-or-treaters in addition to some tooth decaying snacks? Well, it turns out there isn't a whole lot for you to do on that front. I'll take the lead and see what I can do. You just keep on checking in to see where it's at and I'll bring the awesome to you. Deal.

10/27/07 - Midnight Postings

Jack from Night Terrors - Click for Full-Size Image

It's just shy of midnight, but I wanted to get this sketch of Jack from Night Terrors posted up by tonight. I definitely wanted to have some cool Night Terrors stuff up before Halloween, and I've got a really cool piece on the drawing board right now.

Also, I'm feeling pretty bad about letting almost two whole months go without an update. August, September, and October kicked my butt like I owed them money. I don't really like posting when I don't have something cool to show off, and some of the projects I've been working on lately veer far enough away from comics or illustration that it doesn't make sense for me to post about them here.

The solution to the truent-post issue is plainly clear, but I'll outline it for the kids in the back of the class: the independently wealthy among you must band together and give me significant sums of your lottery-won cash so that I may work full-time on the AoJJ and/or Night Terrors. It may be tax-deductible, so check with your accountants. That's called a win-win, folks.

9/1/07 - Now Back to Our Regular Program

Got some new sketches loaded up in the Galleries. They're sort of sprinkled in there randomly, so give yourself a self-guided tour and see if you can find them. Every once in awhile, I see a sketch or drawing that I'm not particularly proud of, so instead of leaving it up there, I'll swap it out quietly with something more recent or at least less cringe worthy.

I did this sketch of The CrowThe Crow - Click for Full-Size Image with my buddy Dak in mind. When we were a lot younger, Dak and I cut class to go to see The Crow on opening day. We'd both been big fans of the comics since we had stumbled across a random issue somewhere and were impressed with the story and art that was way beyond our maturity level at the time. We were used to DC and Marvel in four colors and this was R rated black and white at it's best.

Anyway, we went to get in line early since we were sure that the line would be enormous. It turns out that The Crow wasn't the household name we thought it was, and I remember that besides Dak and myself, the only other guy in the theater was an aging über-fan with The Crow airbrushed on his jeans jacket. Good times.

This is Dak's obituary. I wanted to post this here, because they don't stay online forever, but it will here. As long as I'm alive and this site is going, Dak will be as well.

Dak Krause passed away at home in his father's arms on Wednesday, August 22, 2007, surrounded by his loving family and friends. Dak touched many people in his 28 years, and he will greatly be missed. Friends and family are invited to attend visitation on Wednesday, August 29, 2007 from 9AM-4PM at Oak Hill Funeral Home, Room F and from 5PM-9PM at the Drawing Room Chapel with a vigil at 7PM. A memorial service will take place on Saturday, September 8, 2007 at 12:30PM at Most Holy Trinity Church, 2040 Nassau Dr. San Jose, CA 95122. Published in the San Jose Mercury News on 8/27/2007.

8/25/07 - More on Dak

My good friend Dak will have a viewing on Wednesday, August 29th from 9am - 9pm at Oak Hill Cemetery located at 300 Curtner Avenue San Jose, CA 95125. A mass and a wake for him is set for September 8th, and when I can get some more specifics on that I'll post them up.

Dak's sister Eileen, another one of my favorite people, has created a page for Dak here. You can tell how amazing Dak was by reading the heartfelt tributes his friends and family have written for him. Every word of it is true and makes me miss him that much more.

I have this crystal clear image of Dak in my mind of him in the 3rd grade. For some reason, that's always been my default image of Dak. I used to always tell him that he looked more like my brother than I did, but maybe it was just the glasses. I'm glad that when I close my eyes to picture Dak, I see that buddy of mine in Mr. Pence's class, smiling and squinting. That's the Dak I'm going to always carry around with me.

 John

8/23/07 - Dak Krause, 3/10/79-8/22/07

Yesterday evening, one of my best friends since the first grade, Dak Krause, passed on at the age of 28. His sister Eileen let me know that he went peacefully with his family around him. I wish that made me feel better, but right now I just want my friend back.

I know that for many of you, this site is a place for you to check out some drawings and read about what I've got going on. I apologize, but there is no way that someone as important to me as Dak can move on Dakwithout me letting the world know. For any of our friends who are stumbling into this here unexpectedly...what can I say. There are no words and too many tears.

Growing up, Dak's parents were always quick to welcome me into their home. It's not enough to thank them for sharing Dak with everyone, but it's a start. Dak was good-natured, quick to smile, loyal damn near to a fault, and humble about it the entire time. If you've ever met Mr. and Mrs. Krause, you know where Dak came from. I would do anything to take away what they must be feeling right now.

Over the last ten years or so, Dak and I saw each other less and less, to the point where we put years of space between our calls to each other. I'd tell my wife stories about me and Dak and our friends, especially in junior high and high school, and she'd always say "Why don't you give Dak a call and invite him over?" Or I'd tell her a great story and she'd say "I don't know if your friends should come over."

But life happens. We both moved around and got caught up in our own separate things after awhile. One of my favorite things about Dak was that, no matter how much time passed between us getting together, whenever we did talk it was like we saw each other yesterday. That was Dak. Easy-going. And this is what's making this even more painful right now. I had no idea Dak had been sick for the last year. Some great goddamn friend I am. I'm grateful that Dak was able to go through the toughest time of his life with better friends than me at his side. I am so ashamed that I wasn't there when my buddy could have used me. I wish Dak could have met my boy. I wish I had been a better friend.

Dak would have been there for me.

Life is painfully short. It is not fair. You've heard that before? That's because it's true. Make less enemies. Forgive someone. Ask for forgiveness from someone else. Make that call you've been putting off. Let your friends and family know how important and amazing they are.

I could ramble for days, but right now I'm in too many pieces. I just want my friend back. I love you more than you knew, Dak. I miss you.

 John

8/14/07 - This isn't the post that I was planning on writing. Sunday night, legendary artist Mike Wieringo passed away at the age of 44 of a sudden heart attack. The full report of it can be found here on Newsarama. To say that we lost a good one is an understatement of the highest order.

I never met 'Ringo in person, and wouldn't dare to say that he was a friend when so many can, but I knew him through his art and his writing. If you've ever seen his work in Flash, Robin, Fantastic Four, Spider-Man, or Tellos, you were enjoying a master at at his craft. He was an artist's artist, as they say. He made it look great and he made it look easy.

And the thing is, even while being an acknowledged master by his fans and peers, he was still humble and unsure. He still worked tirelessly to fix whatever weaknesses he saw that we could not. He made sure that each drawing, each touch of the pencil, was better than the last.

Mike Wieringo was the artist I wish I was. When I draw, I'm daring to touch the hem of his sleeve. But even moreso, Mike Wieringo was the type of guy I wish I was. Humble. Loyal. A good friend and mentor.

As an artist he was unparalleled, but as a man he was an inspiration.

I wish I had known him, and know that my life is smaller for not being able to.

Bye, 'Ringo.

Bye, 'Ringo.

 John

7/16/07 - I've been working steadily, but the NT site stands roughly where it did last update (which was at Defcon Awesome if you don't remember).

I've got some new sketches up in the Gallery if you've got a few minutes to burn at work. Go on, you're boss is cool with it. In fact, if I was you, I'd order the boss a brand spanking new commission to hang on their office wall. You'll probably get a promotion out of it, but I'll definitely get some groceries.

That last part may not be entirely true. We both know you're not management material. Maybe if you didn't surf the net so much. And I'll probably blow any cash I get on something ThunderCats related. Don't feel bad, we're only human.

 John

7/9/07 - I get asked every so often about how the webcomic and new site are going, Night Terrors Story - Click for Full-Size Imageso I thought I'd share another sneak peek with my favorite askers. This is the main page layout of what I like to call "The Night Terrors Story". If you click on the link or the handy thumbnail floating around on the left, you'll see what the artwork I showcased in an earlier update was finally turned into. See? I told you it was going to be worth the wait. And you thought I was just stringing you along. Have faith, Internet. We're almost there.

The sneak peek doesn't show the site navigation, so there's more to the page that you'll have to wait to see. I'm working steadily on the actual comic now that most of the site is built. One of the sections that I'm looking forward to the most is going to be the Mail section.

Since I'm trying to create an actual comic online, I thought I'd take a cue from my favorite books I read growing up and have an actual letters page as opposed to a message board or a comments section. We can always get a forum going on any of the existing community sites out there, but I wanted a place on my site that showcased your comments chosen by me to give it that letter column feeling I miss the most from comics right now.

This will be the place where you can read any actual letters people want to write to me about Night Terrors in general, the story, the characters, the art, etc. I think that's a lot more special than a comment line where anyone can write "Yor comic BLOWZ. from ScooterBoi375" or whatever. Which doesn't mean I won't showcase a letter that shreds the comic, just that it has to be a little more thought out than that. It's a little different, but I think it will be awesome and people will look forward to seeing their missives posted online.

It also means we'll get to have a "Name the Night Terrors Mail Page" contest. I'll probably hold off on that until we're getting more traffic, but if you've got any good ideas, send them my way . The winner of the eventual contest, once it's announced, will win the original art to the Mail page and maybe some other cool stuff. Doesn't that sound sweeter than anonymous comment postings? Yeah, it does.

 John

6/25/07 - I sketched this out the other day with Aquaman - Click for Full-Size Imagemy good buddy Robert Burk in mind. Robert has an unwavering loyalty to Aquaman that is unmatched by any other. If they ever made an Aquaman movie, I think he'd probably take the day off of work to wait in line. The good news is, it would be a short line. Zing! I'm just kidding, Aquahombre.

I really can't bash Aquaman that much. It turns out I've got a pretty good chunk of my collection devoted to his seafaring adventures myself. And even though I like a lot of the Aquaman stories they've put out since they've changed up his outfit, cut off his hand, grew out his beard, etc., I do miss the iconic orange scale shirt and occasional smile. I can't remember the last time I read a book where Aquaman seemed like he was having a good time, though the same could be said of most comic characters these days (but that's a whole other post/rant).

I guess you can't blame him for being such an Aqua-downer when you become a pop-culture whipping boy. Regardless, I'm an open Aqua-fan. Maybe that's what I wanted to say with this sketch: give Aquaman some respect. He can do more than just talk to fish. He can also ride giant sea-horses. And that's mighty rare these days.

 John

5/25/07 - Happy 30th birthday, Star Wars! I know I didn't get you a card or a present, but my thoughts were with you all day. Besides, we all know how much you hate it when we make a big deal about you.

Here's a quick sketch Luke Skywalker - Click for Full-Size Image I did of Luke Skywalker in honor of the greatest films ever made.I know the likeness isn't that great, but I was doing it without any reference. To be honest, I'm not really that big on 100% realistic likenesses in comics. It pulls me out of them and makes me wonder what frame from the movies they got the image from. That's not an excuse for my drawing, I'm just saying.

I recently off-loaded about two dozen Star Wars books to an eight year old and was amazed at how big a fan he was. It made me feel good that my little guy will probably be able to enjoy the movies independently of me forcing them on him.

I think the last time I drew anything Star Wars related was when I was in high school. This sketch was a lot of fun to crank out and makes me wish I had an opportunity to do more like it. If you've got a hankering for a Star Wars sketch, send it my way and I'll see what I can do. It'd be nice to fill out the Gallery with some more Star Wars stuff.

 John

5/21/07 - The Night Terrors site is so close to being ready I can practically hear the internet breaking into thirds over it right now. I kid.

I just finished up some more of the NT site art. I thought I had posted the pencils to this colored version recently, but I guess I was Night Terrors - Click for Full-Size Image mistaken. Oh, well. It didn't change too much from pencils to inks to colors, but I know some of you like seeing the process. The background colors are really just for this image since they aren't used on the site. You'll see what I mean (someday?). From left to right in this piece are the four main characters Sean, Emily, Craig, and Jack. I'll save the intro for the character on the far right until he shows up in the book.

I'm trying to think up a contest to give away some of the art used on this site and the NT one, since it's probably just going to sit around collecting dust. If anyone's got any ideas, I'm always here. Thanks for stopping by!

 John

5/11/07 - Dear Information Superhighway,

How are you? I'm doing fine. Sorry I haven't written in so long. I've been up to my elbows in diapers and newborn baby stuff. When I get to choose between sleep and updating news pages, sleep usually wins out. I told you 2007 was going to be awesome! So, what's new with you? KIT.

Here's some artwork that I'm working on right now for the Night Terrors site. Now that I'm back to work, things should speed up a bit so that I can open up the site and introduce you all to something that I've put a ton of work into and think you'll enjoy tremendously. The ton of work is my part of the deal. You can take care of the tremendous enjoyment, ok?

Spidey - Click for Full-Size Image Also, I've been doing some warm-up sketches before I settle into my daily drawing and am always looking for new ideas and inspiration. If you'd like to see a particular sketch, send me a line and if it sounds like fun I'll sketch it up and post it in the Gallery. As always, thanks for swinging by!

 John

3/15/07 - You know what they should make? A comic book about zombies. And then they should make a tv show set in a hospital. See, that's two completely original, earth-shattering ideas right there! Go on, take them. I've got tons left that I'm keeping all to myself.

Anyway, I'm definitely not the first kid on my block to come up with a zombie super-hero, but I had to post this 'cause it cracks me up. I've The Green Lantern Corpse - Click for Full-Size Image got a few comic reading compadres who love pronouncing the Green Lantern Corps as the Green Lantern Corpse. It only took hearing that about twice to think of this sketch here. Man, I hope when I'm a member of the living dead my abs are so ripped. I bet it's hard to get in any decent workout time when you're really only after some sweet, sweet intergalactic brains.

 John

3/12/07 - Oh, that's right. This site is supposed to update regularly. My apologies. That's what happens when the world outside of the information superhighway steps up and starts telling you what to do.

I've loaded up a few new sketches in the Gallery to help heal this rift between us, my anonymous friends. I “read” Casino Royale on James Bond, 007 - Click for Full-Size Image audiobook recently and it inspired this 007 sketch. I really enjoyed the film version and the book held up pretty well, though it's an almost entirely different piece of work. There's a monologue of Bond's towards the end of the book that would have made the movie an even deeper piece. It was interesting to me how something written fifty years ago still applied to our world today. If you read it, you'll see what I mean and I won't sound like such an English literature tool. Anyway, it made me want to draw Bond.

 John

1/30/07 - Still moving along. I'm trying my best to get the new digs Night Terrors - Click for Full-Size Image looking beautiful before I invite all of you over. Now, when I say "the new digs" I don't mean that this site is going away. The 'ol AoJJ will always be around for you to see all the news and updates and sketches and secret recipes you've come to love. NightTerrorsComic.com is simply the home for the new Night Terrors online comic that I've been harping about to my friends and comic book store guys for awhile now.

Since I don't want to let too many cats out of the bag before the official launch, here are some recent sketches of the four main characters, Jack, Craig, Emily, and Sean.

In other non me-related news, my buddy I've never met in person D.J. Coffman has been nominated for D.J. Coffman's Hero By Night - Click for Full-Size Image the Web Cartoonists Choice Awards in the category of "Outstanding Super Hero/Action Comic" for his excellent Hero-By-Night Diaries. If you go to the CCAwards site, the Super Hero category is the last one. I don't know what to make of that. I think it's pretty darn cool and well deserved. If you've never checked out the work he and Jason Embury are doing with HBN, go now. It's recommended reading and I'll forgive you this once for abandoning my site to look at someone else's.

1/22/07 - One step closer, gang. Anyone who wants to get a headstart adding Night Terrors to their bookmarks can do so at the new site located at www.NightTerrorsComic.com.

I guess I could have waited until the launch day was announced, but I'm still like a kid on Christmas about all of this. Don't worry, the wait won't be too much longer. Believe me, I can't wait to give you a reason to slack off. It's what I live for.

1/21/07 - The new Night Terrors site is really coming along. I want to make sure I've got a bit of a backlog before the roll-out, so I'm taking my own sweet time on this. Here's a peek at what's in store with the Night Terrors site.

I know it doesn't look like much now, but wait a few weeks and then you'll really be able to see that it doesn't look like much. All in all, I'm pretty happy with the way everything's coming together. I'm hoping Night Terrors will knock your socks off, so please note that the NT site will be socks optional.

Also, if anyone out there reading this on the information superhighway is intertested in a commission, now is definitely the time to get in touch and place an order. In addition to the Night Terrors stuff, we've got some big stuff coming up at the Jett lab that is going to make extra work take an extra long time.

Thanks for stopping by!

 John

1/6/07 - Ah, 2007. I don't care what everyone says about your friend 2006. Just becasue he was an underachiever doesn't mean you are. We'll show the naysayers, 2007. I believe in you.

Night Terrors is coming along smoothly. I just finished the main graphics for the NT site. Since the debut is still a few weeks out, I'll show off some commissions I've been working on recently. This is one that I finished right before Christmas; it's Wonder Woman vs Batman from the Superman: Red Son continuity. If you don't read comics regularly, that means "Wonder Woman fighting Batman in strange costumes". If you do read comics and haven't read Red Son, I highly recommend it. The art alone is worth the admission price.

Ok, I've got to go back to the lab so I can bring some new comics to life for you this year. Get ready, 2007.

12/31/06 - I hope all of you reading this had a great Christmas break and are ready for an awesome New Year. Man, we are gearing up for an amazing 2007 here at the Jett Ranch. 2006 was great, but it's little brother 2007 is going to be monumental.

Here's a little peek at what we've got coming up on the comic front: an all new weekly comic available for free on a yet to be released sister-site. I'm hoping to have it built and ready to go in the first few weeks of the New Year.

So check back as often as you can without your boss getting mad and I'll have some more sketches to show off new Night Terrors stuff or random commissions I'm cranking out. If your boss is cool, share the love and get him to check out the site. Maybe it'll put him in a good mood and you'll get that raise or shiny red stapler you've been after. That's what we're all about here: improving your life through comics and giving you a reason to slack off.

Happy New Year!

 John

12/18/06 - What's this? A timely update? I know what you're thinking: "Shouldn't we have to wait a few years between updates?" Well, I hope not. I'd like to get at least three updates here a week. Maybe show off a sketch or a sneak peek at what I've got on my drawing board, or just showcase something that doesn't really fit in the Gallery or Books section.

Here's something I drew recently for my Aunt Janet's birthday. I made this into a 36x24 poster and left that huge space at the bottom so people could write Happy Birthday messages, but we ended up leaving it plain.

My Aunt Janet is the world's biggest Incredible Hulk fan. She loves the Bill Bixby/Lou Ferrigno show. One of my favorite things in the world is sitting around and watching them on DVD with her. Or the Linda Carter Wonder Woman series; the first season is awesome. Seriously.

12/16/06 - Here it is: the All New, All Different Art of John Jett. This is the first site that I've ever designed all on my lonesome, so I've got a pretty nice feeling of success going right now. Actually, that's not entirely true. I've got to give a huge thanks to Professor J. David Eisenberg for his limitless patience and Q-like technical know-how. The site isn't totally completed yet, it's more like the second Death Star. Fully operational, but a little rough in a few spots.

So, to the three people reading this, here's what you can expect to see in the coming weeks and months: tons of new sketches, a whole bunch of finished drawings, and a pair of books that I've been working on for a very long time that I am going to be placing in our new Books section for your reading and viewing pleasure. Here's a sneak peek at the first story I'll be dropping on all three of you like a two-ton heavy thing. It's the cover to my new book Night Terrors. Look for it to debut around the first week of the new year. In the meantime, thanks for coming around and feel free to hang out as long as you'd like. Talk to you soon!
